Free For Dinner Tonight?

Kasan Red in the East Atlanta Village has been offering a special vegan dinner menu on Tuesdays! We have really been enjoying our dinners there so far, and we are very excited about a non-vegetarian restaurant making a special effort to accommodate the vegan community here in ATL. Kasan Red has been taking their vegan dinner very seriously, by going as far as using dedicated vegan bowls, pans, grill etc. on vegan Tuesdays. So show 'em some love and stop by for dinner tonight, yes?

Frozen Foods and Farm Animals

Reminder! We ship frozen food orders at the beginning of each week, so be sure to get your order in for this week before Wednesday! And please note, frozen food can only be shipped on it's own. Non-frozen stuff will need to be ordered on a separate order. You know, because of the dry ice and all.

And while we have your attention- Farm Sanctuary's Walk for Farm Animals is coming up soon! The Atlanta walk is going to take place on October 4th at 10:30 AM @ John Howell Park. For registration details, please contact Melody Paris via email atlanta@walkforfarmanimals.org.

Vegan in Ghana

Our friend Alison is vegan, and she is going to be teaching in Ghana for the next six months!

Does anyone have any experience eating vegan in Ghana that you could share with Ms. Alison? If so, she would love to hear it. Feel free to pass along any advice in the comments section, or on Alison's blog here.

Who's Up For Another Circus Demo?

The mother of all abusive circuses is in town- Ringling Bros. If you are interested in getting involved, please consider participating in a demo this weekend. Here are the details, from Dino at GARP.

Please join us this weekend to again, speak up for the elephants and other animals abused and killed by Ringling.

WHERE : The Arena at Gwinnett Center

6400 Sugarloaf Pkwy, Duluth, Georgia, 30097

WHEN:
Fri September 19 6:00PM

Sat September 20 6:00PM

Sun September 21 4:30PM

WHY: Archele Hundley, a former Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus employee, has recently teamed up with PETA to make a moving plea to potential circusgoers. Hundley, who witnessed elephant beatings during her time with Ringling, narrates a new public service announcement (PSA) urging viewers to stay away from the circus.

"I saw handlers deliver a beating … for 30 minutes. She was covered with bloody wounds. I'll never forget her agonizing screams," says Hundley in the PSA. "Please never take your children to a Ringling Bros. circus."

Hundley worked on Ringling's animal crew for two months. During that time, she witnessed incidents of abuse, including the following:

An elephant was beaten with bullhooks so severely in Tulsa, Oklahoma, in 2006 that she bled profusely and cried out in pain.
A trainer viciously whipped a camel and punched a miniature horse in the face.
Trainers jabbed horses with pitchforks and gave them extremely painful "lip twists" to force the animals to obey commands.
An elephant with painful arthritis was kept on the road.
"The abuse was not just once in a while—it occurred every day," says Hundley. "The elephants, horses, and camels were hit, punched, beaten, and whipped by everyone from the head of animal care down to inexperienced animal handlers hired out of homeless shelters."

Archele says that she repeatedly complained to circus management about the abuse—to no avail, prompting her to quit in disgust.

What do wallets and macaroni & cheese have in common?

...You can find them both in our new products section this week!

We are happy to offer Australian-made vegan wallets by Vegan Wares. Currently there are two styles available: the Classic Wallet and the Triple Wallet. Nice, yes?

Now about that mac & cheese. We just got in a new Vegan Macaroni & Cheese Mix by Leahey Foods. We gave it a try and it is delicious, so the packaging doesn't lie. It certainly makes for a quick and easy meal.

Reminder: Atlanta Circus Demo This Weekend!

This reminder comes to us via GARP:

Thanks so much to all who came out for the 2 demonstrations we had at Circus Vasquez this past Sunday. Although our numbers were small, we gave out 1500 leaflets in total!

Again, we found the crowds were polite, and interested. They willingly took the leaflets, and in many cases, asked for them. Our efforts to educate the circus-goers is really working! Their positive attitude made the leafleting process so much easier. If you've ever thought about coming out for an action, this is the one.

We are hoping for YOUR HELP this weekend. Here is the schedule of demonstrations:

Friday, 9/5 - 7:30 to 9:00 pm
Saturday, 9/6 - 7:30 to 9:00 pm
Sunday 9/7 - 3:30 to 5:00

Please join us for this opportunity to really make a difference for the elephants. Your participation really counts. For more information on the problem go to www.circuses. com.

Here's the address:

4166 Buford Hwy
Atlanta, GA 30345

If you are unfamiliar with Circus Vasquez and their abuse of elephants, please take a moment to read this.

Let's Get Involved, Atlanta!

Hey Atlanta activists: Circus Vazquez is in town. This weekend is the final weekend to leaflet and spread the word about elephant abuse in circuses. Here's what several participants of last week's demo said of the response:

"We found the crowds were polite, and interested. They willingly took the leaflets, and in many cases, asked for them. Our efforts to educate the circus-goers is really working! Their positive attitude made the leafleting process so much easier."

"In the 15 years that I've been doing this, I've NEVER had such a positive response to what we are doing. People are very polite, very interested and we are making a difference.
We've had people who were going into the circus, change their mind and came out to hand out literature w/us!"

Sound like something you would like to be involved with? Here's the demo schedule for this weekend:

Friday, 9/5 - 7:30 to 9:00 pm
Saturday, 9/6 - 7:30 to 9:00 pm
Sunday 9/7 - 3:30 to 5:00 pm

And the address:

4166 Buford Hwy
Atlanta, GA 30345

What's all this talk about the elephants? Please visit circuses.com for more info.
