Have you ever thought about purchasing flax oil to meet your omega 3 fatty acid needs, but you're wondering what the heck to do with the oil? Smoothies are an easy way to get in your daily flax! Check out some of the following smoothie recipes, which you can use for your Barlean's Organic Flax Oil . Here in the Cosmo's Vegan Shoppe test kitchen we have also found that using Just Like Honey from Suzanne's Specialties adds a touch of tasty to all of our smoothies as well.

The following recipes are adapted from the book Flax For Life! By Jade Beutler

Banana-Carob Chip Frosty

2 medium frozen bananas
1 cup frozen rice milk or soy milk (use ice tray)
1 tablespoon peanut butter
¼ cup carob chips
¾ cup water
2 tablespoons Barlean's Organic Flax Oil
1 tablespoon "Just Like Honey" from Suzanne's Specialties (optional)
In a blender, combine ingredients in order listed and puree to a frosty consistency.
Serves 2 to 3

Strawberry and Cashew Nut Milk Smoothie

1 ¾ cups water
1/3 cup raw cashews
7 frozen strawberries
¼ cup frozen blueberries
2 tablespoons Barlean's Organic Flax Oil
2 tablespoons "Just Like Honey" from Suzanne's Specialties (optional)

In a blender, combine ingredients in order listed and blend until rich and creamy.
Serves 2

Spicy Apple Smoothie

2 apples, peeled and cored
1 frozen banana
¼ cup raisins, soaked
¼ teaspoon peanut butter
2 tablespoons Barlean's Organic Flax Oil
1 tablespoon "Just Like Honey" from Suzanne's Specialties (optional)
pinch of cinnamon
1 cup water
4 ice cubes

In a blender, combine all ingredients and puree to a smooth consistency.
Serves 2 to 3

Nutty Buddy Peanut Butter Smoothie

1 cup rice or soy milk
1 banana
2 tablespoons peanut butter
2 tablespoons "Just Like Honey" from Suzanne's Specialties (optional)
2 tablespoons plain soy yogurt (optional)
2 tablespoons Barlean's Organic Flax Oil
2 tablespoons wheat germ
½ teaspoon vanilla
2 cups of ice (one tray)

In a blender, combine ingredients in order listed and blend until smooth or to desired consistency.
