Just when you thought there was a vegan version of every non-vegan food, along comes vegan "pork" rinds!

While Vegetal Skins are certainly not health food, some vegans and vegetarians who were brought up in the south (like Leigh here at Cosmo's) may have fond memories of eating pork rinds. But that was before we knew better! If you want to taste a bit of that salty nostalgia while staying true to the animals, then give Vegetal Skins a try.

Now available in Original and Hot flavors. Each bag contains 3/4 oz.

Ingredients: Flour, salt, vegetable and/or peanut oil, monosodium glutamate, sodium bicarbonate. Hot Flavor also contains garlic powder and red pepper.

A Bit Hard but Satifies a Craving 03/18/2010 - by Teri Hamrick from Marietta, GA US
The imitation rinds (original or hot) are ready-to-eat versions of Mexican duritos or chicharrones. They are harder than pork rinds and stay crisp in hot soup. To punch up the flavor, try sprinkling on some "Bakon Hickory Smoke Style Seasoning".
Get your salty fix... 12/17/2009 - by Candice E. from San Diego, CA US
I hate to admit it, but I love these things. I don't think I have ever eaten real pork rinds before, but these are salty, spicy (I got the hot flavor), and great dipped into a vegan ranch dip. Are they healthy? No way. But when I want a salty snack, these do the trick.
will not buy again 12/02/2009 - by Rebecca Byrd from Chamblee, GA US
I guess these aren't TOO bad, but they were too hot and spicy for me, so I won't be eating them again unless my husband (who likes spicy) insists I get some, which he probably won't. He wasn't too impressed either. They are good for complex carbs, but have 2g sat fat per serving, and only 2% PDV iron, which isn't much. No fiber at all. And they have MSG. So....I don't think I'll be buying these ever again; not enough nutritional value to warrant the taste & spiciness. My husband thinks it would be hilarious to name them "human skins" instead of imitation pig rinds. If so, why not "factory farmer rinds?" Even funnier.
