Vegans are non-meat eaters. They don’t believe in eating meat for such reasons as environmental, health and ethic concerns. Basically, a vegan can’t take any type of meat or animal related products. However, it is clear beyond reasonable doubts that not all vegan foods are what they claim to be for example the case of Co Yo Vegan Yoghurt which was recalled after it was found to have milk.
According to vegan rules and ethics, taking animal-based products or even meat is a crime. As a result, vegans live a different lifestyle from non-vegans. It is therefore ironical when some of the vegan foods are found to have traces of animal-based products.
For instance, Vegan food type endorsed by some celebrities and Nigella Lawson recalled vegan yogurt products after having realized that they had milk in them. Co Yo, introduced by a certain policewoman during her maternity leave later introverted the 5 flavors of Co Yo, “dairy-free coconut yogurt”
In fact, government food overseer/watchdog FSA or Food Standards Agency instructed consumers to return yogurt to the shops as it posed the life of the people to danger particularly those with milk allergies not to mention that it corrupted vegan’s way of life.
What The Company Had To Say About The Allegations?
According to Co Yo, the news about its yogurt containing dairy was shocking and devastating. It accused an external 3rd party supplier of contaminating the yogurt. As a result, Co Yo claimed to have ended its association with the 3rd party.
Co Yo brand boasts of endorsement by great celebrities on its official website. Such celebrities include Boy George, Fearne Cotton and Nigella Lawson who endorses Co Yo in her writings/book referred as simply Nigella as well as a famous food blogger Ella Woodward known to have come up with recipes using the brand`s products.
According to the company, the recall was precautionary and pointed out that in a previous product testing, Co Yo yogurts were found to contain little amounts of dairy.
The company insists that it was highly devastated since they are always keen when producing their products ensuring that their customers are provided with top quality and dairy-free products. All their products are produced in their dairy-free factory
The company assured the customers of a full refund provided they contact the stores from which the product was bought. Sincere apologies were offered over the same though. (The guardian.com)
Co Yo was started 6 years ago by a mother of two aged thirty-eight by the name Bethany Eaton & raked about 5 million dollars last year as reported by The Guardian.
